Masseria Francesca

Near Cisternino, Apulia, Italy

Various trulli and apartments with from one to three bedrooms, with large shared swimming pool and garden

This enchanting set of trulli and traditional stone built eighteenth century farmhouses now converted into elegant self-catering apartments are located just outside Cisternino.

The entire estate has been lovingly renovated using traditional local materials and maintaining original feautures such as the stone floors and walls, while combining them with the latest in self-catering requirements, including broadband wireless internet access. LCD televisions and air conditioning and central heating throughout.

And the furnishings and furniture have been individually and carefully chosen to reflect the local culture and history as well as provide a stylish, clean and cosy environment, with each apartment having its own unique additions.

The apartments sleep from two to six guests and are found in two groups of trulli and lamie, a type of local stone square house, found dotted around the estate in generous and well manicured gardens.

The shared pool has plenty of space and shade surrounding it and is ample to cater for the various families and guests staying at the masseria at any one time.

The largest apartment is found in the traditional beehive trulli so iconic to this part of Apulia and has three en suite bedrooms, a living room and well equipped kitchen.

There are three one bedroom apartments, each with fully equipped kitchens and double bedroom with en suite bathroom, which are located in the lamie square houses.

A two bedroom apartment with disabled access is ideal for a family of four or for two couples. Again the apartment has a fully equipped kitchen and washing machine and an outdoor pergola to allow complete privacy when dining outdoors.

The garden surrounding these cosy and individually styled holiday apartments is over two acres of lawns and olive groves and are walled and private, allowing children to play in safety.

Various fruit trees are also found in the garden and guests are welcome to pick the fruits when they are in season.

The outdoor spaces are also equipped with loungers, hammocks, outdoor tables and chairs and pergolas and a large communal outdoor pizza oven which produces great bread and pizza.

Guests are welcome to take advantage of these peaceful areas to relax in a hammock or under the shade of an old tree with a book and immerse themselves in the surrounding peace and tranquility.

There is also an external shower for a refreshing cool-off to provide relief from the southern sun's hottest days.

The large square pool has Roman steps and a large shallow step for sitting in the water or playing with smaller children and the surrounding stone paving is covered with pergolas provding ample shade. Tables and sun loungers allow one to relax around the pool in comfort.

The area surrounding Masseria Francesca and Cisternino provide the visitor with a wonderful array of options, with perhaps most popular the mile upon mile of clear Adriatic sea lapping against a variety of beaches, coves and cliffs.

Small and ancient towns are dotted around the area with much understated but beautiful architecture and culture. The heel of Italy often bore the brunt of attacks from other parts of the Mediterranean and is a true melting pot of cultures.

Ottoman influences have mixed with African, Greek and man other down the centuries to provide a completely unique landscape, cultural identity, human character and individual cuisine.
